REPORT : India’s First Ever Official Championship on MS-Office

COMPUDON 2011

COMPUDON 2011" is INDIA's 1^st Ever Official Championship on Microsoft Office to test students’ skills through Microsoft® Office Specialist (MOS) certification exam on any one application from Microsoft Office Word, Excel® and PowerPoint®. The 3 India Champions (1 each in Word/Excel®/PowerPoint® 2007 &Word /Excel®2010) will represent India and compete at the Worldwide Competition organized by Certiport between July 31, 2011 - August 03, 2011 in San Diego (USA).

ELIGIBILITY:
Students:- Between age 13 and 22 years (as of June 15, 2011)

CONTEST LEVELS:
1^st Level: The 1^st level contest was conducted in the school between May 8 - 19, 2011. 30 students from Kulachi Hansraj Model School participated in the competition.
2^nd Level: Top 500 students (across India) from QUALIFYING CERTIFICATION EXAMS were invited to participate at 2^nd level test (total 4,000 students). The 2^nd level exam took place at pre-selected Authorized Exam centers between May 26-28, 2011. 12 students from our school reached 2nd level contest.

3^rd & Final Level (National): Top 25 Students from each application (Word®, Excel® and PowerPoint®), total 75, (regardless of version) were to compete in 3^rd & final level. One student, Sidak Preet Singh (aged 13 years, One of the youngest participant) reached the final level . The exam was conducted for the 3^rd level on June 05, 2011 in New Delhi.

‘COMPUDON 2011’ Result : The results for the same were announced in a ceremony held on 6^th June, 2011 hosted by CyberLearning, in association with Microsoft|Learning CERTIPORT where Sidak Preet Singh from Kulachi Hansraj Model School was declared INDIA CHAMPION in Microsoft Powerpoint 2007.

Prize: Trophy & gift cheque worth Rs. 51,000/-

He was also awarded a gold medal, a netbook and a data card for being the top scorer in this field.

Sidak Preet Singh shall be one of the global ambassador of INDIA at the world stage, and compete at the Worldwide Competition organized by Certiport between July 31, 2011 - August 03, 2011 in San Diego (USA).

We hope that he fulfills the dream that Our School has seen and emerge as winner on the global platform as well.

The success is the result of constant motivation and encouragement from our Principal Mam, Mrs P. Datta. The Computer Department is thankful to Mam for her inspiration and support.

Edge 2003 : Our First Computer Symposium was held on 16^th September’2003 which coincided with the Ozone Day. The chief guest of the event was Dr. Jitender Verma (Director MGRM Net). Nearly 30 schools of Delhi and NCR participated in the event. St. Xavier School was the winner of rolling trophy and a DeskJet Printer.

Edge 2004 :Second Annual Computer Symposium was held on 21^st September’2004. The Chief Guest of the Symposium was Dr. Rajesh Hasija, Principal Apeejay School NOIDA. The rolling trophy and a scanner as an overall prize was won by DLDAV School, Pitampura.

Edge 2005 : Third Computer Symposium was held on 8^th October’ 2005. Dr.M.P.S.Bhatia (NSIT DU), Dr. Naveen Kumar (HOD Computer Science Deptt. DU) and Dr. Poonam Bedi (Lecturer DU) were guests at the function. Manav Sthali School was declared overall winner and took home the rolling trophy and DVD Player as overall prize for their school.

Edge 2006 : ‘tech4us’, the Computer Club of Kulachi Hansraj Model School, Ashok Vihar, organized its Annual Computer Symposium on 21st September, 2006. Mr. Ravinder Kumar, the Vice Chairman of our School was the chief guest at the function.

The events ranged from Tech Attire (Fancy Dress) for Nursery, Creative Multimedia based activity, Paint Brush, Ad Mad and Brain Tickle for Junior Section and Kavi Sammelan, Animated Web Designing, Multimedia Activities, Quizzing, Programming in Visual Basic Competitions in the senior sections. There was huge participation of about 400 students from 27 leading schools from Delhi and NCT in the event .

Manav Sthali School, was declared over all winner of edge-2006. They won OVERALL TROPHY (Rolling) and DVD Player for the School.

Computer Vision Syndrome

If you or your child spend more than two hours each day in front of a computer screen, you likely experience some degree of computer vision syndrome (CVS). Symptoms of CVS include:

Headaches
Loss of focus
Burning/tired eyes
Double/blurred vision
Neck and shoulder pains

What Causes Computer Vision Syndrome?

CVS is caused by our eyes and brain reacting differently to characters on the screen than they do to printed characters.
Our eyes have little problem focusing on most printed material, which is characterized by dense black characters with well-defined edges. Healthy eyes can easily maintain focus on the printed page. Characters on a computer screen, however, don't have this contrast or well-defined edges.
These characters (pixels) are brightest at the center and diminish in intensity toward their edges. This makes it very difficult for our eyes to maintain focus and remain fixed onto these images. Instead our eyes drift out to a point called the "resting point of accommodation" or RPA.

Can be Done?

Have a complete eye examination and be evaluated for CVS
Obtain a custom designed computer glasses
Vision training if indicated
Puntal Plugs for dry eyes
Rest periods every hour
Optimal visual hygiene including proper posture, working distance and angle, lighting, and a good monitor.
